Aline Smithson, the juror for the Dreams exhibition at The Center for Fine Art Photography, defines a dream as, “a personal goal, a life fantasy, a desire, and an ethereal scramble of ideas and imagery ripe for interpretation.” The 62 works selected by her in this exhibition illustrate these themes extensively from the otherworldly and surreal to amplified moments of daily routine. Images that encourage us to question where we’ve come from, where we’re going, and what role our dreams play in understanding ourselves.

My photograph, “Ladder at 15,000 Feet” taken at Mont Blanc, France was selected.

This same image received a Bronze Award from the International Loupe Awards for 2011.

Juror Debra Klomp Ching has selected the same image, “Ladder at 15,000 Feet” for First Place in the Places Category in PWP’s International Women’s Juried Exhibition. The image will be in a group show at Manhattan’s .NO Gallery in May, an online exhibition, and will appear in a feature article in the January issue of PWP’s IMPRINTS Magazine.

My work is included in the “Center Forward” exhibition that runs from April 29-June 11, 2011. The Center for Fine Art Photography always has wonderful and stimulating  exhibitions-if anyone is in the area, please stop by and you won’t be disappointed with any of their shows! The image included in this show is from a new series called “Edible Botanicals” which focuses on food as a world wide scarcity.  It is a work in progress and will include images of soil and water, topics of concern for raising food and supporting populations.  This particular image is of “Bitter Melon,” a vegetable I was not familar with, but I found the warty, textured skin fascinating.

One Life selected me as one of the top 100 international photographers.

One Life is an international call for photography that delves into the lives of the global community. Artists Wanted and PDN Magazine have partnered to bring photographers together to submit images illustrating their lives, loves and passions. The world is changing, but the power of images is constant. Photography allows us to transcend barriers and demonstrate that, with all our differences, we are one community, one world, One Life.

Women In Photography International will have a booth at photo la +artLA Projects 2011 from Jan. 13-17, 2011. My photograph “Little Eve” will be included in the show.

My piece, “Dark Object” was selected for this competition and received an Honorable Mention. This is from a new series about monolithic objects.  These images are printed on matte archival paper which gives the surface a velvet quality.

In an era when large prints, really large prints, are in vogue, there is still a group of photographers who enjoy the discipline of creating small masterpieces. To afford them a measure of recognition, Soho Photo is initiating its Annual National Small Works Competition in February, 2011.

The Competition has no limit as to subject matter or technique, but the finished print size cannot be larger than 6 inches in each direction. Mattes and frames cannot exceed 12 inches in each direction. Our juror will be selecting the images to be exhibited and will award prizes as well.

The Juror: Richard Klein Exhibitions Director, Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art Ridgefield, CT. Richard Klein is a Connecticut-based artist, curator, writer and Exhibitions Director of The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Ridgefield, CT.The Aldrich is one of the few non-collecting contemporary art museums in the United States.

Soho Photo Gallery is the oldest artist-run photography gallery in New York City. It was established in 1971 by a group of photojournalists and avant garde photographers who were seeking an alternative gallery space in which to exhibit their work.

WPGA recognizes artists’ talent through competitions juried by industry leaders, exposing their work in the media, publishing their work, hosting  collective exhibitions, and by exhibiting their work to an extensive international audience through WonderPick Gallery, an art portal where selected artworks can be viewed online and purchased (to be launched shortly). WPGA believes that its competitions cannot avoid recognizing photography’s history. As such, WPGA strongly feels it has a social responsibility to the most needy throughout world. To help in fulfilling its social responsibility, WPGA has chosen the nongovernmental organization Save the Children as beneficiary of ten percent of the proceeds from the contest revenues.
